- Richard was the first Cronin or Reville or Keane or Duane to join the service during World War II, and the last one discharged. He served as an Aviator Machinist Mate, 2nd Class, in the U.S. Navy for 3 1/2 years, both in the Pacific and stateside.
Richard belongs to the Irish Community one hundred percent. He has been active in fund raisers for scholarships for the Knights of Equity, an Irish Catholic organization, and also active in Belfast Summer Relief Program. This program brings over 60 to 70 children up to age 12 from Northern Ireland Catholic and Protestant families, equal numbers from both, to show the children how different religions and culture thrive in America. Sponsors take one and sometimes two children into their homes for six weeks. The program organizers keep tabs on the children and the sponsors very closely. All the children want to come back to America some day.
Richard is very interested in the genealogy of the Cronin-Reville-Deane family. Much of the information in this family history was supplied by him.
