Notes |
- Richard CRONIN was highly decorated in World War II, saving his whole squadron while in Burma by letting them climb on his back. Before marriage, Richard was a heavy drinker. He worked as a fireman for Buffalo, often performing heroic feats. Richard met his wife, Mary, while he was a patient at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Lackawanna.
Mary was born on 20 May, 1924. She studied nursing at what was then the "Cadet Nursing School". She became an R.N., and worked at Our Lady of Victory for thirty-six years, retiring in 1984. Mary died on 14 September, 1984.
Soon after retirement, Mary was crushed to death in a gas station when a van on the street was involved in an accident and was pushed into the gas station, pinning Mary between two vehicles. She died a short time later while in emergency surgery at Mercy Hospital, Buffalo, NY.
Mary's sister married ? Griffin, long time mayor of Buffalo.
