Notes |
- Jeremiah was a farmer in Meenskehy, Dromtarriff Parish, at the time of
his marriage, as was his father Daniel. Mary Cosgrave lived in
Barnacurra, Clonfert Parish. The marriage took place at Newmarket,
Clonfert. Witnesses were Richard Cosgrave and William Herlihy.
It appears that before Jeremiah and Mary Cosgrave married, Mary may have
had a son, Daniel, baptized 16 November, 1870, in Meenskehy in
Dromtarriff parish, the father being a Patrick Cronin. Witnesses were
Thomas Cosgrave and Elizabeth Cosgrave. It is not proven that this is
the same Mary Cosgrave, although COSGRAVE is not a very common name for
that area, let alone having two Mary Cosgraves in one small village. It
is possible Patrick was an older brother to Jeremiah, although that is
not proven and there were very many Patrick and Jeremiah Cronins of a
similar age in the area.
Meenskehy is a village in the Dromtarriff civil parish. This parish
lies half in the Poor Law Union of Kanturk and half in the Union of
Millstreet. It is in the Barony of Duhallow and in the County of Cork.
