BIOGRAPHY: In the second half of the 14th century there was a marriage between [Richard?s daughter] Margaret de la Bere and Sir Elias Basset of Beaupr?, Glamorgan. The Basset family held Beaupr? Castle (now known as Old Beaupr? ) until 1709. Margaret was the sister of Sir John de la Bere (d.1388) of Weobley, in Gower, whose wife was Agnes, daughter and coheir of Sir Payne Turberville of Coity.
When Thomas de la Bere, a minor and a royal ward, grandson of Sir John de la Bere, died in 1414 without issue, his inheritance was divided between Margaret?s son John Basset and her sister Elizabeth?s son, Sir John St. John (d.1424) of Paulerspury, Northants, and Fonmon, Glamorgan [See Calendar of Fine Rolls, Vol. XIV, p.101]
