  • Notes
    • He was an adventurer, working as a log roller in Michigan, on the railroads in Pennsylvania, then in oil fields, then came to Buffalo, and became a fireman during the horse drawn days, then a policeman in Buffalo. After retiring he was a sharpshooter for the federal reserve bank. In St. Louis he was in a big fire where a huge chandelier fell on him. Although uneducated in the schools, but he was self-learned and dress smartly. He went to mass daily (and then to the bar). At 84 he fell off a bar stool and broke his arm.

Fred was 28 and Laura was 16 and they eloped. Laura had several older unmarried sisters, so should not have been married before them. They lived in Jamestown until they had a baby, brought the baby back to Buffalo, then were forgiven. Laura's father, Frank LINK, was an emigrant from Germany, ran a tavern, and was a friend of Grover Cleaveland, once major of Buffalo and eventually president of the United States.
