Notes |
- Have copy of Marriage certificate.
Note: on marriage cert (certified copy in writing of John MacDermott) has her name 'Annie' in the wife field but 'Anna' in the signature, however this would not have been in her hand as the certified copy was made 15 June, 1915, by which time 'Anna' was her daughter - and error in the transcription yet purported to be an 'exact' copy. Umm.

Notes |
- BIRTH: Place of birth: Kildare (Ireland Census 1911); Dublin (Ireland Census 1901);
BIOGRAPHY: From notes by son (Tom) written ~ 1986. Annie was supposedly married before she was 17 yo. She was, in fact, 18 or just turned. Stillborn son, James was born just over 7 months after her wedding (was he premature?).
BIOGRAPHY: From Ireland Census, 31 March 1901. [DED 30/5, Belfast City, 54 files]. [Victoria Ward, Holywood Parish, Belfast, Co Down]
An Annie Abernethy is listed (Scholar, 12 yo, born Dublin, but see below 1911 census). Daughter of James (gardener, 46, born Co Tyrone) and Annie (37, born Co Meath). All 3 Presbyterian. Living at 121 Belmont Rd., Holywood, Belfast.(123 is at end of road. Seems as if #115 is a bording house with 28 rooms) No others listed as being at that address on 31/3/1901. This could put her at 18 when married 28/3/1907 - broadly consistent with Thom's recolection.
Census 1901, lists an Isabella Clark (13 yo) 'visiting' the Wilkinsons (now only Thomas, Margret (not Margaret), son John and 'visitor' Isabella born in Dungannon, Tyrone. Was she a younger sister, by 1 year, to Annie Abernethy? Whose mother was Annie Clarke? Is Annie A. and Isabella C. step-daughters to James Abernethy?
BIOGRAPHY: Census 1911. (Pottinger ward, Co. Down)
Anna Wilkinson (note spelling, Annie was her mother) aged 22 living at 10 Ulsterdale St. With son John (2 yo), Daughter Anna (Maisie, 1 yo), husband John, mother Annie Abernethy (nee Clarke) (aged 58). Copy of Census Household Return on file. In this census, Annie is listed as being born Kildare (Co. or city) which conflicts with 'Dublin' (Co. or city) as given in 1901 census. <http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Pottinger__part_of_/Ulsterdale_Street/229437/> Kildare is about 65 km SW of Dublin. Was it Kildare Street, Dublin? or perhaps actually Kildare and the adoption papers made out in Dublin, the seat of governmeent.
BURIAL: Grave site E4-103, Dundonald Cemetery.
Dundonald Cemetery opened as a municipal burial ground in 1905. There are no new grave plots available in the cemetery, but burials still take place in existing graves. However, we only provide a grave burial service and do not offer natural burials in the cemetery.
The entrance to the cemetery is marked by an imposing set of black and gold double gates. At the highest point stands a grey limestone war memorial, around five metres high. It is embedded with large bronze Excalibur-type swords which form the shape of a cross at the top of the monument.
The engraving below them reads: "This cross of sacrifice is one in design and intention with those which have been set up in France and Belgium and other places throughout the world where our dead of the Great War are laid to rest. Their name liveth for evermore." {http://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/cemeteries/dundonald.asp}
DEATH: Just prior to death, lived at 14 Clonlee Drive, Bloomfield, Belfast.
