- Per daughter-in-law Paula Doller, Lena was one of the nicest women she had ever met. She was a farm girl, with black, curly hair. She had had no education and could not write her name.
Irven was the "boss" in the house, even buying all of Lena's clothes.
Family lore says that when Irven died, Elmer stole all the money and none of his other surviving three brothers ever saw any of their inheritance.
