General Richard Montgomery's family owned the Convoy estate in Co. Donegal. Regarded as America's first military hero, he fought for the Patriots and was killed at the Battle of Quebec in 1775. His brother Alexander was an MP for Donegal for 32 years and was nicknames[sic] 'Americanus' because of strong support for the Colonists.
