Sept 10 1833 MELANCHOLY ACCIDENT On Friday evening week, as Mrs Montgomery, the lady of John Montgomery, of Bavarden, Esq., and family, were returning in an open barouche, from a visit to Andrew Ferguson, of Burt, Esq., and on their way to the Farm, the door of the vehicle, against which Miss Jane Emily Montgomery, of the age of three years, was standing, gave way, ~~ the most unfortunate consequence of which was that the child fell backwards upon the road. She was instantly replaced in the barouche, which was driven with all possible expedition to the house of Thomas Harvey, Esq., in Derry, where surgical and medical aid were promptly procured – but before that, life, we are sorry to say, had become extinct. It was found that the spine had been seriously injured. It is not for us to describe the anguish of mind endured by Mrs Montgomery from the time when the accident happened. Suffice to say, that it has cast a deep gloom over the large circle of her connexions and friends in the neighbourhood (Strabane Morning Post)
