MARRIED
On Sunday Morning last, the gay Mr Cooper, aged 89, was “firmly tied and bound”, but neither by bond or mortgage, but by the silken chains of matrimony, to the agreeable Mrs Key’s (sic). The gordian knot was tied by the Rev. Mr. Hamilton, amidst the discharge of musketry, and the huzzaing of numerous friends of the bridal party. Joy and love were so conspicuously delineated in the countenance of the Bridegroom, during the performance of the ceremony, that a spectator would have sworn that the power of Cupid could renovate with the vigour of youth, the love of 100. Indeed, I actually believe that Mr. C. enjoyed during the happy moments that consigned to his arms the lovely bride, the pleasing prospect, by anticipation, of providing himself with an heir, before this time twelve months, and really I doubt not, that this flattering hope will be realised. Probably some youth who has been married for years without experiencing the happiness of a parent, may hoot at the assertion. I should almost believe it a twang myself had I not been a witness to the surprising vigour displayed by Mr. C. on his wedding day. It is an inconceivable fact, or a truism, and what no gentleman will presume to deny, that the identical Mr. Cooper, used to, and generally did, make use of a stick, or a cane, to support him, or to assist him in walking – now the said Mr. C. had not got half way to the church where the ceremony was performed, until Cupid, or his tutelary? Saint endued his limbs and body with pristine vigour, and mirabile dictu ! he cast away his staff and challenged any gentleman of the party to run or leap for £20
