Newtownstewart, March 28 1780

The following CAPTAINS of companies:

J. S. HAMILTON, 1st Dunnamana, Grenadiers

Sam. LAWSON, Newtn. Stewart, Light Infantry

John BATEMAN, Ardstraw

John KNOX, Cappagh

R. GALBRAITH, 2nd Dunnamana

John JOHNSTON, Derg

Wm. SINCLAIR, Douglas

Geo. HAMILTON, Mary Grey

Having met at Newtown-Stewart this day, in order to form said companies, consisting of 522 men. armed and clothed into a battalion came to the following resolutions:

That this battalion be named the TYRONE BATTALION.

That Thomas KNOX, jun., Esq., of Dungannon, be Colonel

John BATEMAN, Esq., Castlegore, be Lieutenant Colonel

Samuel LAWSON, Esq., Cross, Major

John HAMILTON, Esq. Agliss, Major

The Rev. Nicholas STEWARD, Chaplain and Treasurer

Charles CRAWFORD, Esq., Aid de Camp

Mr. Andrew WALSH, Adjutant

Mr. Hugh McFARLAND, Surgeon

Resolved, That we associate for the purpose of supporting the dignity of our King, our Country and our Constitution; and that the ambition of the Tyrone Battalion will be to prove themselves to their fellow subjects , True Irish Volunteers, in whom concentre the honourable characters of Patriot , Citizen and Soldier.
