No official record is held for Nellie Stevenson, Matron, as she was with the Red Cross Voluntary Aid Detachment Hospital in Henley-in-Arden for the duration of the war.( Many records from these VAD hospitals were deliberately destroyed after the war.) However, Douglas Bridgewater, Honorary Research Fellow, Centre for War Studies, University of Birmingham published a book in 2014, ISBN: 978-1-85858-528-4 entitled ‘A Small Town & The Great War Henley in Arden 1914 – 1919’ includes a chapter on the auxiliary hospital with Nellie Stevenson ARRC matron.
