At a Meeting held in the Town of MAGHERA, on Tuesday, the 11th October, 1828,for the purpose of forming a BRUNSWICK CLUB, Major GIBSON being called to the Chair, the following Resolutions were moved and adopted: -
Moved by the Rev. JAMES S. KNOX, seconded by the Rev. CHARLES RAWLINS –
1st “That a Club be formed, to be called the Brunswick Constitutional Club of Maghera on the basis of preserving the integrity of our Protestant Constitution, and that this club be in communion with the Brunswick Club of Ireland, and pledged to the maintenance of the principles published by that body, at its meeting in the Rotunda, on the 4th November.”
Moved by the Rev. WM. MAULEVERER, seconded by the Rev. MARCUS McCAUSLAND –
2nd. “That such persons now present subscribe to the foregoing Resolution, be members of this Club, and that the amount of subscription be from one guinea to one shilling per annum.”
Moved by WM. MAULEVERER, Esq., seconded by ROBERT FORRESTER, Esq.
3rd “That all persons who may thereafter wish to become members of the Club, be eligible on the recommendation of three members of the Committee”.
Moved by the Rev. EDMUND KNOX, seconded by ALEXANDER CLARK, Esq.
4th “That Barre Beresford, of Learmount, Esq., be requested to accept the office of President of this Club – that the following gentlemen be requested to act as Vice-Presidents, with power to add to their number –

That the following gentlemen with power to add to their number, do constitute a Committee for the management of the affairs of the club, and that five of their number be a quorum:

That Robert Forrester of Clare-hill, Esq. be requested to act as Secretary, and Bellingham Mauleverer, of Maghera , Esq. act as Treasurer of the Club.”
Moved by BARRE BERESFORD, ESQ., seconded by CHARLES STEWART, ESQ. –
5th “That the President, Vice-Presidents, Committee, Officers, and Members of the Club, will particularly impress upon Protestants of all classes, the necessity of abstaining from offence or insult in their language or behaviour, and of paying every respect to the laws, in all their modes of exhibiting their principles or maintaining their opinions.” Major Gibson having left the Chair – upon the motion of the Rev. James Spencer Knox, seconded by Barre Beresford, Esq., the Rev. William Mauleverer was called thereto, and the thanks of the meeting were unanimously returned to Major Gibson for his dignified conduct in the Chair.
