COOKSTOWN, Dec. 2d. 1796
WHEREAS on Tuesday morning last the 29th of November, a daring and wicked attempt was made on the life of one of the Soldiers now quartered here, by firing a shot at him when standing Sentinel.
NOW we, the Inhabitants of the Town and Neighbourhood of Cookstown, holding in abhorrence all such atrocious acts, do hereby promise sums annexed to our respective names, for the discovery of any person or persons concerned in said horrid and abominable offence so as he or they may be brought to conviction ; and that we will aid and assist the civil magistrate in the due execution of the laws, and the maintenance of peace and good order.
