HISTORY OF THE CONGREGATION 1835-1946
In 1835 the needs of Presbyterians in this remote area were recognised by the Synod of Ulster and a congregation established. Up until then the Rev. Charles Hemphill of Bodoney had conducted services every third Sunday and on 12 October 1836 Rev. John Moore of Pettigo was installed as minister. He came to Glenelly after eight rather hectic years at Pettigo. Once after delivering an Orange sermon which it was said “did more credit to his heart than his head” he was waylaid in a lonely place, dragged from his pony, cruelly maltreated and left for dead. One of his arms was broken and to a certain extent was disabled for life. At Glenelly he had another uphill task. The Presbyterians met for worship in a thatched cabin in the townland of Eden Mill on which site the present church was built. He retired on 14 June 1869 and died 25 July 1881.
Mr. John Love, son of the Rev. Joseph of Killeter was ordained here on 22 July 1869 and he had the meetinghouse enlarged. Unfortunately he had to resign on 5 June 1879 on account of ill-health and was accidently drowned in Co. Armagh on 7 September 1917. The third minister was the Rev. Joseph Steen (lic. Coleraine). He came from Smithborough, Co. Monaghan, after 12 years there, to an area suffering much from emigration. He was installed on 27 October 1880. He retired on 2 May 1923 and he died on 29 August 1928. Ordnances continued to be supplied by the minister of Gortin with which the congregation was united on 1 June 1946

A TYRONE GOLDEN WEDDING
Mr. and Mrs. John Orr, of Riverview House, Plumbridge, Newtownstewart, county Tyrone, celebrated their golden wedding a few days ago in the presence of their children and grandchildren, the only absentee being a son. Both Mr. and Mrs. Orr enjoy radiant health and are as vigorous as many who are only half their age. There are five children of the marriage – four sons and one daughter – but one of the sons, John, died in his young manhood. The other sons are Mr. R. A. Orr, who served as a lieutenant in the Great War, and is well-known in business and social circles in North-West Tyrone. Mr. William James Orr, who holds an important dairying position in New Zealand and Mr. David Orr, a farmer at the old home. The only daughter is the wife of Mr. John Warnock, of Aughalane, Plumbridge. Mr. and Mrs. Orr were the recipients of many good wishes on the occasion of their celebration a few days ago. They were married in Glenelly Presbyterian Church by the late Rev. John Steen, B.A., on 19th January, 1886
