Comments: I am searching for my 3x great grandfather Robert John Hazlett and his brother Hugh. Robert was born about 1805 somewhere in Co Tyrone (per tombstone), and Hugh about 1800. Both married Donahue girls, cousins, Sarah and Catherine. Sarah's parents were James Donahue and Sarah McGlynn. The Hazletts and their wives settled in Meriden, Connecticut, USA.

Comments: I am working as far back as I can for my line in Brooklyn NY.
My 5th Great Grand mother Jane Smith Keeler was illiterate and yet I have found so much on her. The Emmigrant Banking Records in NY show she came from Aughnacloy Tyrone, Ireland in about 1841 at the age of about 19 (single). It notes the ship, Rochester, as well.
I am looking for ideas on researching in Aughnacloy. I do know her parents were James Smith and Nancy Allen. Not certain if they were Catholic or not, but Jane married a Catholic from Cork (Jeremiah Keeler) here in the US and our line since then has remained so...and until my parent's generation, all stayed in about the same neighborhood in Brooklyn NY.
Any help on Tyrone records would be welcome. Thanks!

Comments: A story written in 1896 says that my ancestors William McBride and Jane (Janet) Law left Ireland around 1768 already married with one daughter, traveling to South Carolina to meet their old close friends Robert and Mary Dorris Thompson who had left a few years earlier. Information from an obituary states that the son of Robert and Mary Thompson (Archibald, born 3 Sep 1760) and the daughter of William and Jane McBride (Mary or Mollie, born about 1766) were natives of County Tyrone. The story tells that these families were part of a migration from Scotland to Ireland years earlier. These McBrides and Thompsons were Presbyterians and long time intimate friends. I don't even know if it is possible to find any information in Ireland that far back. William McBride's father was possibly named Thomas or John, due to family naming patterns. I hope to explore this some day.
