NOTICE.
Whereas, it appears to us that Threatening Notices under the signature of “Molly Maguire,” have been served upon William Young, Esq., and his Landsteward, Mr. Menaul, which clearly prove to us, that this baneful system of intimidation is now attempting to be introduced into this County, as it has been in adjoining Counties - We having duly weighed and considered the fatal and injurious effects such a system, if allowed to proceed unchecked, will have upon the well-being of society in general, and the peace and prosperity of all the members the community, resolved –
1st. That if a single instance again occurs of a similar nature, that we immediately apply for such an effective additional Police Force, to be introduced into such a district, and the entire expense of that Force to be defrayed off the district alone, as will put an end to the proceedings of such a lawless body, and protect the lives and properties of the peaceable and well disposed. – And we recommend and urge, in the strongest manner, the co-operation of all the Landholders and Occupiers of land in the County, to prevent a system of Outrage or intimidation being introduces or gaining ground in the County, which must, if allowed to gain ground , prove the destruction of their Peace, their Lives and their Property.
2nd. That we find, from clear proof, that numbers of persons, total strangers in this County, are now prowling about it, without any apparent purpose; and, as the track of such persons is ever marked with some act subversive of peace and good order, we cannot urge too strongly on the Farmers and Landholders the wisdom, if not the necessity, of reporting the appearance of all such persons to the Magistrates and Police, and on all such occasions refusing them admission into their houses.
