CLOGHER QUARTER SESSIONS

These sessions commenced on Monday last, the 22nd instant, before the Worshipful RICHARD NUN, Esq., Q.C., assistant barrister. The civil business was considerable, there being two hundred and ninety civil processes entered, and one ejectment case. There were three applications for spirit license, two of which were granted.

The crown business commenced on Tuesday.

The following is a list of the prisoners tried, with the sentences:

JOHN FARR

for having stolen several articles of clothing from the Omagh Union Workhouse, in June last – submitted. To be imprisoned one month with hard labour

WM. FLEMING, ROBERT FLEMING, WM. FLEMING, jun., and WM. HALL

for having assaulted MARY STEEN, at Dromore, on the 24th May last. Not guilty

PATRICK MULRINE

for rescue at Branthill, on 4th June last – submitted. To be imprisoned one week

CHARLES IRWIN

for having on the 19th July last, at Dromore, stolen some fowl, the property of ARCHD. JOHNSTON – submitted. To be imprisoned 4 months

SARAH BARCLAY

for having on the 18th July last, at Aughaderry, stolen a chemise, the property of MARY ANNE COCHRANE – submitted. To be imprisoned three months with hard labour

JOHN BARCLAY

for having on the 18th July last, at Aughaderry, stolen several articles, the property of the Rev. JAMES REID DILL – guilty. To be imprisoned three months with hard labour. The two last prisoners were also found guilty of another larceny

OWEN CONOLLY

for having, on the 23rd July last, at Altnaveagh, broken into the dwelling-house of JAMES McKENNA. To be imprisoned 6 months

MARY GORMAN

for having on the 17th July last, at Kilclay, stolen a quantity of turf, the property of FRANCIS CARROWELL – submitted. To be imprisoned 6 months with hard labour

SAMUEL BAXTER

for having, on 22nd July last, stolen a quantity of leather from the guardians of the Omagh workhouse. To be imprisoned 6 months with hard labour

JANE HAMILTON

for having, on 16th June last, at Lisnabulreavey, stolen several articles, the property of JANE McKEOWN. To be imprisoned 2 months with hard labour

JOHN HENDRY

larceny at Ballygrennan – submitted. To be imprisoned 1 fortnight

TERENCE McCARROLL

for having on 6th August last, at Seskanore, stolen a web of linen, the property of WM. GALLAGHER. To be imprisoned 2 months with hard labour

WM. FIFE

assault on JAMES MULLIGAN, at Clogher, on 21st July last – submitted. To be imprisoned six weeks

JOHN HUGHES

for having on 11th July last, at Trew, stolen a scythe, the property of JAMES McGIRR. Not guilty

MARY McANALLY

for having, at Omagh, on 9th Sept. last, being the Lord’s day, unlawfully, wickedly, and maliciously, and in contempt of public worship, disturbed the congregation in the parish church, by swearing in a loud voice, and using indecent, obscene language to the minister, Rev. A. E. AUCHINLECK, during the reading of divine service – guilty. To be imprisoned two months, and find security to be of good behaviour

PATRICK TURNER

assault on WILLIAM DAWLEY, at Augher. To be imprisoned a fortnight

MICHAEL BARRETT

larceny of clothing from the Omagh union workhouse. To be imprisoned three months with hard labour

SAMUEL WILSON

assault on FELIX KELLY at Ballygawley, on 17th September last. To be fined 10s. or imprisoned one month

PATRICK McMENAMY

for having stolen £9.10s. from WILLIAM McGURK, at Carrickmore, on 26th April last. – guilty. To be imprisoned three months with hard labour

CATHARINE TEARNEY

like offence – not guilty

ELLEN MAGUIRE

child desertion, at Foremass, on 28th September last. To be imprisoned one month

THOS. McCOY

rescue. Not guilty

MARGARET ARMSTRONG

larceny of goods, the property of ROBERT SHEPHERD, at Clogher, on 18th September last. To be imprisoned two months, with hard labour

JOSEPH BAILEY and MARGARET BAILEY

like offence – Not guilty

JAMES SHIELDS

for having, on 4th October last, at Cappagh, stolen two boards, the property of Mr. A. RENNIE. To be imprisoned one month

THOMAS ORR and JAMES WEST

rescue. Not guilty

rescue, fined 5s. each

BIDDY McCOART

child desertion – submitted. Discharged
