TYRONE ASSIZES HELD AT OMAGH, March 1835

On Saturday last, about half past three o’clock, CHIEF BARON JOY arrived in Omagh, and shortly after took his seat in the Crown Court, when the Grand Jury were again sworn for the discharge of the Criminal Business.

His Lordship briefly addressed the Grand Jury, congratulating them on the lightness of Calendar, and on the peaceable state of the County, particularly when compared with the state of the South of Ireland; and concluded with some few observations which were not audible to us at that part of the house where we were situated

The Court was occupied in fiating Presentments during the remainder of the day.

Monday: The Court having been opened at 9 o’clock, the following prisoners were put forward, viz:

O’NEILL James For shop-lifting, Guilty - to be transported for 7 years
McMULLEN Peter For having on the 13th February 1834, with others, attacked the house of HUGH SCOTT of Knockally, and taking therefrom a Gun, Bayonet, Spear, &c. – Guilty; to be transported 7 years
BOYD John For breaking the window of MR JOHN COOK, of Strabane, and taking therefrom a Silver Watch, guilty --- to be imprisoned 6 calendar months, and kept to hard labour
