A small congregation, Second Stewartstown is believed to have its beginnings c1815. The first ordained minister, Rev. SAMUEL McCURDY, was installed in 1829 when there were forty families paying a stipend of £40. The congregation was dissolved in 1881.
Surviving records of the congregation are: Baptisms, 1827-; Marriages 1845-; which remain in local custody. The condition of the original records, a degree of difficulty in discerning the handwriting and at times, poor quality of filming, make transcription challenging and wherever possible, the Donaghenry tithe applotment book (1828) and Griffiths Valuation (c1860), Index to Townlands and Towns, Parishes and Baronies in Ireland (1851) and Heather, Peat and Stone-O’Kane have been consulted for confirmation of families and townland addresses. Original spelling has been retained.
