Feb 13 1857 | Candon –On Friday, the 6th inst., an inquest was held in Coruddie, in the parish of Dungiven, before William Lane, Esq., M. D., coroner, on the body of John Candon, who died on the 4th inst. It appeared from the evidence given that four men and one woman by the name of Cromie, a man named Patrick McCloskey, and two others, had, on the evening of the 13th ult., been drinking in Candon's, on their return from Maghera. A dispute having arisen, owing to Candon's spilling some whiskey, they commenced fighting, when Candon received injuries from which he did not recover and died on the 4th inst. A very respectable jury, mostly from Dungiven, by their verdict found James, Edward and John Cromie, with Patrick McCloskey, guilty of manslaughter (Londonderry Sentinel) |
