As a man of business, for activity, industry and integrity, he had no equals; and as a Christian, he stood forth a leader in every good work. His short public life in the town of his adoption(his native place being Tyrconnelly, near Donemana) has proved a rare instance what grace can do for us when combined with talent and industry. The Sabbath-school, the Prayer-meeting and the Presbyterian Church in which he was a ruling elder, have in him lost an ornament and friend; but his friends have a certain hope – as certain Christian evidence could make it – that their heavy loss is his unspeakable gain. His life was an active and a happy one, and his latter end was peace (Londonderry Sentinel) |

DEATH OF THE EARL OF RANFURLY We have the melancholy duty of announcing the death, after a few days’ illness, of the Earl of Ranfurly, which took place at Ranfurly Park, Dungannon yesterday morning at half past nine o’clock. Our readers are that his Lordship, as Viscount Northland, had been living in Madeira, from the delicate state of his health, until the death of his father on the 21st March last. He had only returned a few days, and the rupture of a blood-vessel is said to have been the cause of his death. We believe the Earl of Ranfurly was born in 1818. He was married, and leaves two sons and a daughter. His Lordship was greatly esteemed, for his many generous and amiable qualities, and his early death, so soon after his lamented father, has cast a gloom over the entire neighbourhood (Londonderry Sentinel) |
