May 31 1876	MOORE. – FUNERAL OF MRS. MOORE, LOUGHASH, DONEMANA. – Yesterday the remains of this much-lamented lady were removed from her husband’s residence, Loughash House, to Cumber Claudy burying-ground for interment. The funeral cortege was one of the largest that has been seen in this part of the country for many years, a fact that shows the high esteem in which the deceased Mrs Moore was held, and was also evidence of the respect for Mr. Moore. – Correspondent. Dec 12 1886	DOUGALL. – December 9, at Dublin, John Dougall, of Londonderry. [His remains will be removed from 40, Alma-terrace, Derry, for interment in the family burying-ground, Cumber Claudy, this (Monday) morning the 13th instant at eleven o’clock. Feb 4 1887	HANDCOCK. – FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR. DANIEL HANDCOCK. The funeral of the Mr. Handcock left the residence of his mother, Great James-street, yesterday morning, at half-past ten o’clock, and proceeded to Cumber Claudy Churchyard, where the interment took place in the afternoon. The chief mourners were Mr. Hugh Handcock, of the Bank of Ireland, Clones, brother of the deceased, and Mr. Samuel Glenn, brother-in-law. The funeral cortege was very large, including the carriages of the various gentlemen and merchants of the city and a large assemblage of citizens, and testified to the great respect in which the deceased was held. On passing over the bridge and leaving the city, it being eight miles to the place of interment, a good many of the pedestrians fell out of the cortege, but numerous vehicles followed the hearse the entire distance. Rev. A. P. Waring, rector of Upper Cumber, met the funeral at the entrance to the graveyard, and read the burial service of the Protestant Episcopal Church at the grave (Londonderry Journal)

Dec 19 1900	BROWNE. – THE LATE CAPTAIN BROWNE, R.N. Arrival of the remains On Monday afternoon the remains of Captain W. L. H. Browne, of her Majesty’s guardship Severn, and son of the late Major Browne, of Comber House, Claudy, reached Londonderry from Harwick by the 2.50 train on the Great Northern Railway, and the occasion was made one for an impressive ceremony. One hundred and thirty men of the Royal Irish Rifles, under the command of Captain Stewart (the officer in command at Ebrington), Captain Soden, and Lieutenant Robertson, drawn up in three lines, the band stationed at Ebrington and about eighty men of the Royal Irish Constabulary, under County Inspector Leathem and District Inspector McHugh, were drawn up on the platform awaiting the arrival of the train. A large number of citizens had also congregated, amongst whom were Colonel George Knox, D.L., Alderman Bell, J.P., Rev. Canon Gould-Adams (Clooney), Rev. Philip O’Doherty, P.P., (Claudy), Mr. Robert Corscaden, Mr. Andrew Johnston (Northern Bank), Alderman James E. O’Dogherty, Mr. Michael Dogherty (County Councillor, Claudy), Mr. George Craig, J.P., (Claudy), Mr. J. A. Lyle, Mr. James Stewart, Mr. F. Henry Miller, Mr. Charles S. Caldwell, and others. On arrival of the train the coffin which was of polished oak, covered with a Union Jack was borne by members of the constabulary to the hearse provided by Mr. George McIlwaine, John-street, which was in waiting outside the station. The remains were followed by Major Browne-Lecky, J.P., Claudy, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Browne, Mr. E. J. Burrell, coxswain, and Mr. J. Thorpe, steward of the Severn, who had travelled from Harwich, The military and constabulary were drawn up in lines extending far along John-street, their sombre uniforms harmonising with the imposing ceremony. The band, which was under Mr. Cunningham, conductor, played Beethoven’s funeral march as the procession started for Cumber-Claudy, the military reversing arms. The hearse was drawn by four magnificent dark horses. The funeral will take place in the family burying-ground at Cumber Claudy to-day at one o’clock (Londonderry Standard)

Nov 9 1906	BRYSON. – DEATH AND FUNERAL OF MRS. PATK. BRYSON, COOL, CUMBER-CLAUDY, COUNTY DERRY. The remains of the late Mrs. Bryson, who died on 2nd November, 1906 (All Souls Day) were laid to rest in the family burying ground, Cumber-Claudy, on Sunday, the 4th inst. The very large funeral, which was evidence of the great esteem in which deceased was held, was representative of all denominations, and classes of the community in which she lived. The Rev. Philip O’Doherty, P.P. Cumber-Claudy, officiated and after the offertory, which amounted to a very large sum, paid a very high tribute to the long and exemplary pious life which the decease had led. He said it should be a great source of comfort to the family to look back on her devout Christian life as a bright example for them to follow. He had known her for many years, and he always found her, as at her death, a holy child of the Church, that brought a hallow of sweetness and purity wherever her footsteps went. Deceased, who had reached the venerable age of 80 years, was sister to the late Rev. G. McDonagh, P.P., Greenlough, and the late Rev. J. McDonagh, C.C., Derry city. – R.I.P. (Derry Journal)
