DEATH OF THE REV. JOHN PORTER DICKEY, OF CARNONE.

RAPHOE, TUESDAY. – There has died here yesterday the Rev. John Porter Dickey, senior Minister of Carnone Presbyterian Church, at the advanced age of eighty-three years. The deceased gentleman was, perhaps, one of the oldest, members of the General Assembly, and his death is deplored by the people of Raphoe and the surrounding district, although the advanced age which the reverend gentleman had reached rendered it probable he might be called away at any moment. He was well known in the city of Derry, where some of his relatives reside, and who, like himself, are much respected in the community. The Rev. J. P. Porter was born in the year 1805, and will it thus be seen his life covers perhaps an eventful and lengthened a period as is given any one man to see: for from 1805 till 1888includes a span of time in which great wars have been made and great changes have taken place. Mr. Dickey was a long-and earnest worker for the Presbyterian church , tolerant of the opinions of others, while unflinchingly attached to his own communion, and has died at a ripe old age, sincerely regretted by all creeds and classes in the community in which he lived so long. He will be missed about Raphoe, which for so many years he was a familiar figure. The remains will be interned to-morrow (Thursday) morning, in Convoy Burying-ground. – Cor. (Derry Journal)
