Londonderry, Jan 19.

TODD. It is with the deepest feelings of regret we have to announce the death of W. Thornton Todd, Esq., which took place in Dublin on the 9th instant. His remains were brought to this City on Friday last, and deposited for the night on the Cathedral, from whence they were moved the next morning to Buncrana for interment, followed by a great and respectable assemblage of his friends and tenantry. The immense intercourse of people collected to pay their last tribute of respect and the sincere sorrow so universally evinced, fully prove the estimation in which he was held. The Church, the Roman Catholic Chapel and Presbyterian Meeting-house were hung with black at the expense of his tenants. By this lamentable event, the family have met with an irreparable loss; his tenants have to mourn the loss of a benevolent and indulgent landlord; and the country a active and zealous Magistrate (Saunders News Letter)

MORAN. Mr. William George Moran, aged about twenty-two years, who was employed as an assistant in Messrs. Hamilton Brothers’ establishment in this city, unfortunately met his death by drowning, at Buncrana, on Saturday evening last. The deceased, who had been in delicate health, left Derry by the last train to Buncrana on Saturday evening, and shortly afterwards went to bathe. Being unable to swim, and the tide ebbing at the time, the young man was soon carried beyond his depth and drowned. The body was soon afterwards recovered, and conveyed to the house of his parents who live at Tullydish, near Linsfort, a short distance from Buncrana. An inquest was held before G. Mitchell, Esq., coroner, when a verdict in accordance with above facts was returned by the jury. The death of the poor young man is much regretted by his friends in Derry. (Londonderry Standard)
