The Strabane Morning Post
8 April 1823
On Thursday morning, at 6 o’clock, after a severe and lengthened course of affliction, Mrs Leney, wife to Dr Leney. Seldom has the triumph of the “King of Terrors” been more sensibly felt, than in the death of our amiable townswoman. Could the affectionate esteem of a respectable and numerous range of society, the sympathy of friendship, or the unfeigned blessing of the poor, have either mitigated her sufferings or averted her doom, an affectionate husband and interesting family would not have been plunged into the depth of inconsolable distress.

We are sorry at having to announce the death of MR. ALEXANDER LENEY, nephew to DOCTOR LENEY of this town. His long residence in Strabane had made him well known to its community, and was the means of raising for him a large circle of warmly attached friends. For the last five years he resided in Georgestown, Demerara, where as a Chemist and Druggist he had a fair prospect of realising a fortune, had he not fallen a victim to the ravages of that climate on the 20th of May last and in the 31st year of his age
